Solar Power
Green electricity can power a freezer to preserve food when it is plentiful. This reduces the reliance on drought relief maizemeal. It can also charge phones for those Ju|’hoansi who can get tracking or translation work with tourism companies.
Cost
This first project is now fully funded to the cost of £2,500 (EUR€2,875 or USD$3,340).
A further £265 (EUR€300 or USD$355) is needed to purchase a freezer.
We also wish to raise a further £1,500 (EUR$1,750 or US$2,025) for a 1 KwH system for Di//xao#oha in 2026.
We welcome your donations to fund this project.
The first installation will be in Djamta!’ae heritage village in the second half of November. It is a 3kW solar power system with 5 solar panels that will enable the villagers to run a small freezer to store bush meat and avoid some of the hunger they currently experience. A lock-up will house the solar inverter, batteries, and equipment.
